No, I was genuinely confused, LOL. I am not a fan of epithets at all, hahaha. I find it jarring. I wouldn't call Sho 'the rapper' unless he is actually rapping at the time. I'd just say 'Sho' :)
Think of it this way. If I was writing a story where I was the main character, would I be writing "the librarian" in place of Jamie if the story had nothing to do with me shelving books and/or answering reference queries? Hee! But again, that's how I prefer to write. I'm just being honest.
